First-Time Renter FAQs: What You Need to Know Before Move-In Day

Renting your first home is a big milestone, and at Legacy Living, we’re here to make it simple. Whether you’re moving into one of our beautiful homes for rent in Tulsa or settling into a cozy spot in Owasso, these common questions will help you feel confident before move-in day.

What is a lease, and how long does it last?

A lease is a legal rental agreement between you and your property manager. Most leases are 12 months long and outline your rent amount, responsibilities, and house rules. It also ensures your home is reserved for you.

What’s included in rent?

Every property is different. While rent typically covers the cost of living in the home, it may or may not include utilities like water, electricity, trash, or internet. Always ask for a breakdown before signing.

What is a security deposit?

A security deposit is a refundable fee (usually equal to one month’s rent) that protects against damages beyond normal wear and tear. If you leave your home clean and damage-free, you’ll likely get the full deposit back.

Are pets allowed?

Many of our Tulsa and Owasso homes for rent are pet-friendly! Check the specific policy for details on pet rent, breed restrictions, and any required deposits.

What should I do if something breaks?

Don’t stress. Just submit a maintenance request through our resident portal or contact management. We’ll take care of repairs so you can focus on enjoying your new space.

How can I prepare for move-in day?

Make a checklist of essentials (kitchen basics, toilet paper, cleaning supplies), schedule your utilities, and pack a “first night” box with your must-haves. Most importantly, take a deep breath—you’re home.

Legacy Living is here to support you every step of the way. Whether you’re moving into your very first home or just need a fresh start, we have the perfect space waiting for you.
